What this app is not

The boundary, stated plainly: not a course, not a coach, not a partner, not a medical or safety authority, and not a substitute for a mat with people on it.

Not a course

There is no syllabus here that would take a beginner from nothing to a belt. The curriculum is thirty-six solo studies grouped by what they teach, and every one of them assumes the movement was first shown to you by a qualified instructor. The order the groups suggest, foundations to situational, is an order for rehearsal, not a claim that finishing it means anything to a grading panel.

Not a coach

The model shows the movement it names. That claim is checked by tests against a written mechanical spec, and the spec is published so that anyone can disagree with a number. What no test can check is whether the movement is the right version, at the right size, for the right moment, for you. That is coaching, and a coach who has seen you move is the only person who can do it. Nothing in this app has been reviewed by an instructor, and the studies say so.

Not a partner

Every study is one person on a mat. Grips, weight, pressure, direction of force, reactions and resistance do not exist in it. A hip escape is shown as a hip movement, a frame as an arm shape, a sprawl as a shape with nothing to sprawl on. The phrase solo drills are not partner techniques appears throughout the app because it is the most important sentence in it. The two-person positions in the atlas, where they are illustrated, are illustrations of a position, not techniques to copy without a coach.

Not a medical or safety authority

No page here says that a movement is safe, that it protects you from harm, or that it is suitable for a particular body, age or condition. The breakfall and the shoulder-stand rock in particular are movements to learn from a coach on a proper mat, and the studies say so. If something hurts, a clinician is the person to ask. If a movement feels wrong, your coach is.

Not a rulebook, a federation or a school

The rules primer is a primer. The app is affiliated with no federation, academy, instructor or brand, and it endorses none. There are no credentials behind it and it claims none.

What it is

A rehearsal companion for movements you already know: a live model with a written spec, a curriculum of solo studies with faults and prescriptions, a session builder, a timer, a journal and an atlas of questions, all of it local to your device with no account and no server. Used that way, between classes, it is useful. Used instead of classes, it is not. The how to use the studio page shows the intended loop.
